Sorry, this type of video cannot be saved to this device.

I have an iPhone 7plus (ios10.3.1) and i have consistently made movies and promos using iMovie on my device and where the mobile app is limited, i do the work on my laptop. I have never had an issue rendering files that i would then airdrop or dropbox to my device until recent. I have tried rendering in different/lower resolutions to no avail, i have over 100 gigs of storage on my device and a tb of iCloud space so space isn't the issue either but for some reason, the files that are from iMovie will not download to my device. Can someone please help me as this is really hurting my business and driving me nuts!

Thank you Pablo but your answer didn't solve my issue. I usually tap the 'video file' selection which would then render the file. I would then dropbox it or airdrop it. Ive never saved them to my cloud from iMovie but if that would work than the others should. nonetheless, i haven't had a problem with sharing the files to my phone until the last month or so. if i airdrop it, it will send but when i go to play it on my phone it says the file type is unsupported which makes no sense since the file was created in iMovie. when i try to import it through dropbox, it won't even download, it just say this type of video can be saved to the device. Unless i am totally misunderstanding your solution, it didn't help solve the problem. Also the link you provided didn't lead to anything, maybe you entered the wrong url?

Hola amigo!

If you have an iCloud account set up, you can save a movie or project file to iCloud Drive so that it can be stored in iCloud and accessed from another device. iCloud Drive requires iOS 8 or later, a Mac with OS X Yosemite v10.10 or later, or a PC with Windows 7 or later.

Do one of the following:

  • From the Projects browser or Theater: Tap a movie or trailer.
  • If you’re editing a project: Tap Done (in the upper-left corner) to return to the project details screen.
  • Tap the Share button , then tap iCloud Drive.

Do one of the following:

  • To save a video file that you can play on all your devices: Tap Video File.
  • To save a project file that you can open and edit in iMovie on another iOS device: Tap iMovie Project.
  • Choose the iCloud Drive folder where you want to save the file, then tap Done.

Cheers,

Pablo
