Google Chrome is not an OS but an internet browser application. To find out what OS is running on your Mac go to About This Mac, click the Apple logo top left of screen. It will also tell you the model year.

When new the Mac would have come with two installation discs, both grey in colour, do you have them.

Mac OS X Snow Leopard is still for sale from the Apple Online Store (not the App Store) here is a link to the UK store,

https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopardif you are in another country just replace uk in the address field with your countries abbreviation.

If your MacBook is from 2007 you can probably upgrade it to Mac OS X El Capitan from here Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support, or if it is from 2009 you may be able to upgrade to macOS Sierra through the App Store.

Whatever you decide to do you really need to make a back up on an external disc.

Ok I see about Google Chrome OS. So on your other Mac that has Yosemite you could see if you can re-download Yosemite via the App Store Purchases page. If it will download it will download to your Applications folder, once the download has completed the installer app may start, just quit it, make a copy of Install Mac OS X Yosemite.app.

you can make a bootable USB using http://diskmakerx.com/

As your iMac is an early 2009 and if you can't get Yosemite to download, you can get El Capitan here's a link on how to get it, Upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support once downloaded and before the installer starts make a copy of the Install Mac OS X El Capitan. app in your Applications folder and then make a bootable USB using Diskmaker X.

Hi, thanks for you reply.

Maybe I did not refer to it with the correct terminology, but this is what I have install on my MacBook:

Chrome OS

Chrome OS is an operating system designed by Google and based upon the Linux kernel. Google announced the project in July 2009, conceiving it as an operating system in which both applications and user data reside in the cloud: hence Chrome OS primarily runs web applications.

I don't have the CDs so ill try to get them from somebody else.

Thank you for your help.

Teo
