Is it possible to track Airdrop ?

At our school you buy your own iPads and bring them school . Over the last week or so our teachers have been threatening us saying " If you Airdrop pictures without permission from a teacher , you'll be issued with an after school detention." Is it actually possible to track Airdrop. (when you go our school they put you on the network) Thanks!
