how long does it take for an ipad to run out of all battery?

i've been waiting for my ipad to finally drain out so i can fix a problem i'm having. and no, i cannot try to reset or anything like that. power button is broken.

there's this screen where it is the red battery flashing and asking for the charger, but hasn't gone away for awhile now. i thought the ipad would die by now considering it said it was on only 1%. (i've been having this problem where i'm stuck in a cycle of the ipad turning off and on.)

i just need to know how long it takes for an ipad to fully turn off, especially when it said it was at 1% before. is it normal to have this screen for almost 20 minutes?

If functioning properly, it should never allow you to 100% drain the battery. Doing that to a lithium battery will almost always cause damage and the battery may fail to ever take a charge again. Normally, the device will onto power off before that happens, when the battery reaches a minimum allowed discharge state specifically to avoid a full discharge.

If you repeatedly try to turn it back on many times, or let it sit idle for many days or a week or more, it will eventually drain to a full discharge. But that will likely ruin the battery. Lithium cells do not survive 100% discharge states.

I would instead suggest you take it in to Apple for a free diagnosis and find out what is actually wrong, and what options you have to fix it.

ah alright, thank you for the info. it's just my problem is my ipad is stuck in some cycle. i used it until it died, which i regret so much right now. so i'm charging it and the problem is the ipad keeps turning on with only 1%, and obviously 1% can't keep the ipad going so it dies. then it starts over, and over. so i thought if i let the battery drain completely the problem will be gone and actually let the ipad charge. my charger is fine and works well, so it can't be that. i looked this up and others have had the same problem but you would need the power button to reset or restore. 😟 i'm planning on calling later and see what i can do. thanks again!

well, i was gonna try to charge it when it turned all the way off. because the problem is the ipad keeps booting up with only 1% or 2% which makes it die and it starts all over again. so i was thinking if it was all the way off it wouldn't try to start turning on right when it gets a little power. and i can't reboot because the power button doesn't work, and trying the computer doesn't help either. i really don't know what to do. my charger works fine, all outlets i tried don't do anything different. so i'm stuck
