I don't use it often, but when I activate theater mode I still hear sounds. I thought it was supposed to be muted? The screen stays dark, but for example when it's time to stand the chime still goes off. I can put the watch on mute and that solves it, but I thought the one selection was all I needed.
Am I wrong? Or is there anything I am missing?

Turning on Theatre Mode also enables Silent Mode on your Apple Watch.
If you have not yet done so, it may help to update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone (be sure to make a backup first):
As much as I like that idea, and thank you for it, here's the problem. I just had it in theater mode and I got an audible chime for breathe. And then one for a text message. The screen stays dark, but there's no muting whatsoever.
Theater Mode should silence the watch, but has no effect on the iPhone. Are you sure the sound is coming from the watch and not the phone? You might also see Jonathan UK's reply to this question about force restarting your iPhone/Apple Watch:
Thank you. Actually, I am using 3.2.2 despite what's in the question because I didn't see 3.2.2 in the dropdown choices, only up to 3.2.
But I just did a test with theater mode on and mute off, and when it came time for the hourly stand alert it made the sound. Screen stayed black, but the sound is still there.
I've rebooted the watch and phone in all the different ways you've mentioned -- and Apple has mentioned.
The thing is if I select theater mode AND mute, it's fine. Although if I understand I shouldn't have to do that.

Yes it is weird. One thing you might try is on your iPhone to go to:
Watch > Activity
and turn the Stand Reminders off. Then force restart you iPhone & Apple Watch and then turn Stand Reminders back on. Probably won't help, but worth a try, won't hurt anything, & I'm out of ideas other than un-pairing & re-pairing your watch & restoring it (from a backup).
