If I select "Reset all Content and Settings" without signing out of iCloud on my iPhone, do I lose all the iCloud backups and iCloud Drive application data associated with my iPhone?

I ask because a friend of mine upgraded to an iPhone 7, from an iPhone 5s, both running iOS 10.3.2, and he seems to have lost all his iCloud backups and iCloud Drive Application Data (namely WhatsApp chat backups)

Both iOS and WhatsApp were updated to their latest versions on both iPhones. The iCloud menu says no backup exists for his iPhone 5s and no Data exists on iCloud Drive for WhatsApp.

Any thoughts?

Sorry, for the late reply.

Yes, I got the menu entry wrong. And Find My iPhone was disabled first.

Since you're saying, even if you do NOT sign out of iCloud, and you "Erase" the phone, iCloud isn't affected (even though it is explicitly mentioned on Apple's support page to sign out BEFORE erasing), why did all my backups and all data from iCloud disappear?

Do you have any theories? Because I don't want this to happen again.
