After upgrading to macOS Sierra, HP Scanner 8300 will not save or print scanned objects.

Computer is iMac 27-inch, Late 2009. 2.66 GHz Intel Core i5
macOS Sierra Vs 10.12.4 ( new install over Mountain Lion OS)
Memory 16 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB

Scanner is HP Scanjet Pro 8300

After installing Sierra OS the scanner will:

Scan and show the results of the scan but when trying to print or save the scanned image, will produce nothing except a solid black page.......or:

Show a popup that says, "An error has occurred saving the file because it could not be written to. Check the properties for the file to make sure it is not read-only."

Please help.

After spending almost 40 minutes with Apple Support, I have finally accepted the fact that HP has not upgraded HP Scanjet Pro 8300 to be used on the Mac computer, and given that they have not upgraded for the Mac computer for several years, they are not likely to do so now. I hate to give up on it, but I spent many hours on this problem, and I also tried to use the scanner just with the buttons. Sometimes I can get a good scanned picture or document by selecting the button option to save the output in pictures, or to save in documents, but it is so unacceptably difficult that I will next be forced to try VueScan and hope it works as some say it does.

I am really disheartened with HP as I did at one time consider them to be the best maker of printers and scanners. I will also add that they have been upgrading drivers for the Microsoft Windows operating systems.

I did finally give up on all the work-arounds and purchased VueScan. It does install without a lot of trouble and does scan well. There is a lot to the software - a big learning curve if I want to use all the options, but I am happy for now just to scan simply and not have to go to the copy machine at the library. Also, I like to scan my photos, enlarge, and use as source for painting.
