Mac not detecting Canon

I have a Canon EOS Rebel T5, generally when I connect it to my Mac it works perfectly fine. But now it's been about a year since I last used the cord and now It's not connecting. I do not want to waste money on a new cord if the cord isn't whats broken. Any suggestions?

Try, if Photos can read the photos, if you if you use a card reader instead of connecting the camera directly. A card reader is more reliable, because it does not depend on the mode the camera is set to, and it will not depend on the battery on the camera.

Also, have you tested with a different card? Or a different USB port? Did you plug the cable directly into the Mac or are you using a USB HUB?
