I am creating a slideshow on iMovie and when trying to add a song from iTunes, nothing plays. The clip adds and shows green under all the pictures but there is no sound coming out. Does anyone know why?

You said the audio clip was green. Do you also see the waveforms? Does the song play in the browser? If not select the clip and in the tool bar click on the speaker icon and unmute the clip. If you do see the waveforms, check the sound preferences in systems preferences and make sure your internal speakers are selected for output sound. If non of this works, I would open iMovie holding down the command and option keys and delete preferences.

If it shows green with no wave forms, and none of the things mentioned by Jim Wanamaker solve it, then likely you are using a DRM protected song. When you drag a DRM protected song into iMovie from iTunes, it will display just as you have described.

I don't see any waveforms, but it is also not on mute
Since you don't see any waveforms in the timeline, go to the right side of the screen and click on the settings button. Check the box at the bottom to show waveforms. If you still have no sound check the sound preferences in systems preferences as I mentioned before. If still no sound then delete preferences as I described before. All this assumes that audio works ok in other apps and in finder.
