Has the iTunes helper app been discontinued every time I try to update the app it gives me a error message and to try again later. I currently have v1.88 and I currently use 10.11.6 OSx

Just to clarify. I do use Apple remote on my Ipad to access my itunes library which is on my I-mac (10.11.6). the apple remote helper app on my IMac is the app I am trying to update and receive the error message as described earlier. The reason I am trying to update the app or even reinstall a fresh copy is because the music sometime cuts out on play back. I am unable to find the apple remote helper app in the Apps Store. OK, you've started to identify the issue: "... the music sometime[s] cuts out on playback."
"Playback" ... where? On the iMac itself? On some remote speakers? Are you simply using the iMac's iTunes to play the music when suddenly, for some reason not apparent to you, the music stops? How do you recover from this stopped music?
I suggest trying to solve this issue instead of anticipating what methods would be needed to solve it (e.g., some software that may no longer be offered).
