Itunes can't locate files, file names have been cut off when copying

I was trying to figure out why some songs from my itunes couldn't be located... they were shown to be in the correct location but still couldn't be found... so i went to the location to then find that the file name had been shortened for some reason...

The thing is, when I search for a particular album on finder, I am shown with all the songs, then the album and artist folder... all the individual mp3 files have their full names intact, however when I go into the album folder the names have been shortened! 😟 I'm so frustrated and connot work out how to fix this without individually renaming or locating 1000 songs.

Someone please save my soul <3

Have you moved the library between Windows and OS X? In the Windows version of iTunes file and folder names are limited to a maximum of 40 characters including any file extension.

Can you isolate an example, select Get Info, say no when asked to locate the file, then note down the expected location from the file tab? If should begin file:///. Can you post back this path together with the true path to the same file? User <User> instead of your username if it appears in either path. It would also help to know the location of the media folder as given under iTunes > Preferences > Advanced.
