import/copy canon crw files

Problem

I have a macbook air running MacOS Sierra (10.12.4). I've been trying, unsuccessfully to either import CRW files from my Canon 40D or copy them directly from the CF card.

I can import photos in iPhoto directly from the camera, but they come over as JPEG, and this doesn't do i for me.

I'm trying to use Adobe Bridge and Photoshop.

I've tried reading directly from the CF card.

  1. Plugged the CF reader into a USB port.
  2. Inserted the CF card in the reader.
  3. Opened Finder.
  4. CF card doesn't show up anywhere.

Questions:

  1. Can I use the command line (terminal) to mount the CF/CF Reader directly and then do a cp fileName.CRW /user/username/images ?
  2. Is there a utility or app that I can use?
  3. Possibly a different CF reader?
  4. Is there something I should be doing differently in Photoshop/Bridge?

Hi,

Check Disk Utility and System Information USB to see if the Mac is recognizing the card/reader at all.

Then I'd try the card reader on another Mac or even a Windows machine to see if it functions at all.

If it works on another Mac, a temporary work around is to transfer the files to that Mac, then copy them to your Mac.

Note: never delete any of the files from the card while it's connected to the Mac; this may cause you to have to reformat the card from the camera (I don't know why, I just know that it's happened to me).
