Can I downgrade from boot camp 6.1 to 4.0 so I can install windows 7 on my Mac Book 2010? I am unable to install windows 7 with this version of boot camp.

I am trying to install windows 7 on my Mac Book 2010 but boot camp 6.1 is installed and I keep getting an error message stating windows 8 is not supported. According to the instructions for installing windows 7, boot camp 4.0 is needed but I don't know how to get that on my pc. Also, windows 10 will not run on this mac book so I am not sure what my other options are in order to get windows installed on this unit. Please help!

Your BC Assistant should have two options Download... and Install... (or Remove, as appropriate). BC Assistant 6 only provides BC v6 drivers.

To get BC v5 drivers, you can use Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support and download drivers for the specific model of Mac you have to a USB2 flash drive. Using a USB3 or a USB HDD drive is not recommended, as it causes problems.

To install W7, insert the physical DVD of W7. The DVD should not be a mixed 32-bit/64-bit DVD, but must be one or the other.

Please try this and post back if you have any further issues.

Your are confusing the version of BC Assistant and the version of BC Drivers package.

The link I provided is for BC Drivers.

The version of BC Assistant is not relevant, since you have to manually download or overwrite the BC drivers on the USB, if BC Assistant downloads v6.x drivers, you cannot use them. Use the v5.x drivers appropriate for your model, as shown in the link I posted.

ok, I'm understanding what you mean by the version of BC vs the version of BC drivers. I'm a new Mac user so I apologize for slowness getting all this. How do I overwrite the BC drivers? I am running BC assistant from the computer, not from my USB drive. I am getting stuck on the first option of BC Assistant - "create a windows 7 install disk." As soon as I pick my ISO file, I get the error "windows 8 is not supported on this mac." Thank you for your help.
