Why do I keep getting a 401 Authorization error when trying to load Safari? Never had the problem before

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Try entering the URL in the search bar instead of clicking the bookmark or a link.

Despite the error message I can access websites from history or typing in the url so basically no problem.

That works as does accessing sites from history so safari is working
