The only way to retrieve a deleted text message is by erasing your device and restoring to a backup that was made before you deleted the text. Just be aware that restoring to a backup will "reset" your device to the way it was when the backup was made and anything that has changed since then will be overwritten.

I do. I just checked and the iCloud back was turned off. The normal iCloud was on. I've backed up to iTunes in march to transfer data to my iPhone 7+. I believe she deleted the iTunes off her computer though.
I don't understand the connection between iTunes and the iCloud backup that we are discussing. If you have an iCloud or iTunes backup that you can use that was made when you had the text you are concerned about, then you can erase the device and restore to that backup. If you don't have a backup, then you will not be able to get the text message restored.

If you don't have a backup, then you can't retrieve the message. Do you have an iCloud backup by any chance? Do you have the automatic iCloud backup option turned on?
