2 mail icons on same 1phone 5?

I accidentally took the embedded blue email icon off of my iphone 5.

My email account is yahoo. The purple yahoo icon is on my phone and it works.

I got the embedded blue mail icon back on the phone as well, but when I press it I have to go through selecting account, etc, and then get message "you already have an yahoo act"

I like the embedded version of mail much better.

I am afraid to delete the purple yahoo version email icon, because I might lose all of the history.

If I delete the purple yahoo account will it delete all history?

What should I do?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

If your accounts is IMAP, you can use both, or delete Yahoo app. If it's a POP account, change it to IMAP on Yahoo!'s website before deleting.

From the message you're getting, it sounds like you're trying to create a Yahoo account, rather than adding your Yahoo Mail credentials to Mail app.

does this mean I will not be able to add the yahoo credentials on the Mail app, as long as there is an active yahoo mail on my phone?

how do I see if it is IMAP or POP account?
