Ca Apple Carplay be used on 2016 Ford Escape SE!

Can Apple CarPlay be set up and used with SYNC 3 on a 2016 Ford Escape SE. I am trying to upload my navigation app to this car. I have to use a charging cable to sync programs but will not recognize most apps on my phone.

iPhone 7, iOS 10.3.2

Actually, for certain 2016 Ford models, the Sync software can be updated to allow CarPlay. This is something officially supported by Ford, as they originally announced that certain 2016 models will not ship with CarPlay, but will be compatible with CarPlay after future updates have arrived. The 2016 Ford Escape should be one of these models.

You will need to login to the Ford Owner portal and follow the instructions for updating your Sync software, or go to a Ford dealership (depending on the dealer, they may charge for upgrading the software). Ford has stated you will also need to physically upgrade the USB hub in the 2016 models to be compatible with CarPlay, which will be a one-time cost. Once the Sync software and the USB hub have been updated, CarPlay will show as available.

Again, this is only for certain 2016 Ford models - previous years are not able to be upgraded, and the 2017 and up Ford models should automatically have in pre-installed and ready.
