iPad keyboard - some keys not working sometimes, slows down and duplicates letters other times

5th gen IPad running iOS 10.3.1 (and was same for previous few updates) has been having two intermittent problems with the iOS keyboard

  1. at times, it slows down and starts duplicating random letters. rebooting usually solves, but it happens fairly often so frustrating.
  2. other times, the number-shift keys don't work. Rest of keyboard will work fine, but can't switch to numbers or punctuation. Seems to fix itself with reset, but again it is recurrent and frustrating.

Has anyone else experienced this or are there likely solutions?

Figure I'm out of warranty, but does Apple address issues like these? Hard to demonstrate the problems as they are intermittent, but I could probably film it!

thanks for any help.

Yup, glad to find that my iPad Air 2 is not the only one with this issue, I have dozens of screenshots of my iPad doing weird stuff. Keyboard went to top of the screen, keyboard in portrait orientaion but the rest of my screen in landscape, semitransparent keyboard, all sorts of weird stuff. Shift key and some alphabets keys not responding is also a common issue, I'll usually just close and restart the app I am using to reset the keyboard.

I have this same question. It started after a software update. And this was quite a recent post, so even if my problems are slightly different, I don't think it's a coincidence.

Lately my keyboard has also not been showing pressed buttons, and I have to try two or three times. One time the 'a' just would. not. type. I've restarted but nothing's changed. It's a problem with the inbuilt board.

I have the same problem. Bottom left and right 2 keys randomly stop working. If I tap the microphone button then stop it this resets. But that is annoying. There are other problems with the keyboard like this one where my keyboard came in upside down from the lock screen (I took a screen shot) When replying to a text. (Check "message" line which is right side up)

They may be all related so I throw this info out there to see if someone from Apple has a suggestion that is not to restore to factory settings.

btw, sometimes I find certain keys like backspace are not working on sites like Facebook (not the app) and refreshing page helps.. May also be related, who knows!?User uploaded file

I get the upsidedown keyboard and the latest update has made the ipad internal keyboard unstable. It misses keys, duplicates others and the screen seems to zoom in on browsers when a single finger is used to attempt a scroll.

No changes to accessibly from standard and a soft reset doesnt cure it.

Trying a full erase and restore.

I was thinking of getting a Pro, but the devices reliability problems have steered me away from this.

I assume we're talking about the ipad on screen keyboard. I've an iPad Air 2 and ever since the latest upgrade to 10.3.3 my keyboard has been sticking, typing letters I didn't touch, not even back spacing without hesitations and generally being a PITA!

Does anyone know if Apple is aware of this issue and what they're doing about it? I'm a fast typist, even on the ipad and this slows me down tremendously at times. And then at times it works perfectly. Weird and annoying!
