Is the News Wire add on malware?

I read on google searches and other internet sights that the News Wire add on is malware and it records your browsing history and reads your emails. Since I added it to my google Chrome browser I have noticed a lot of

junk in my developer files. Im not sure if I should delete these, I will copy a few examples here:

01F4lxVQeiL.js

01FJLMyKpoL.js

01kg0UJZg8L.js

01mqrKfg1tL.js

expansion_embed.js

These are JavaScript script from 2/14/17

I also have a bunch of these activityi.html I click on some of them and get a pages full of

letters,*--=+d=d= ( Im unable to highlight and copy it.)

I delete my browsing history every few weeks, shut down my mac every 1-2 months. I see adds to clean and speed up my mac, but I have been warned ( on this forum ) not to use them.

Can you tell me if these 200 or more Java scripts and other stuff is normal? if not how do I fix it? My mac runs well except it does not like working with flash drives, it will not wake from its sleep after using a flash drive, I need to hit the power button.

Thanks!

Mac mini, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)
