Homepod & iTunes Match

So far, Apple is saying that the Homepod will only play music if you pay for an Apple Music Monthly Subscription.

I pay Apple $25 per year for their music Match service. All of my many, many songs that I own are available to play on all of my devices (Apple TVs, Apple computers, iPhones, and iPads.)

Will the Homepod have access to all of my iTunes Match songs, and will the Homepod be able to play them by me just requesting the name of the song? (The Apple TV 4 can do it with the Siri Remote Control. And I can ask Siri to play any song in my Match library by just asking on any of my connected devices.)

I need Apple to confirm that the Homepod will support one's iTunes Match account, as well, before I decide to buy the Homepod. Thank you.

I agree. We have google homes. I’ve been waiting for an apple home speaker assistant. I’ve been and apple user since 85. I want to play my family iTunes, I want to read and send my email as received by “apple mail” I want to manage my calendars and everything else that google and Alex struggle with. But, if I can play my iTunes library I might as well keep my **** expensive google play music account.

I am looking everywhere and I can not find the answer to this question either. If it does support iTunes Match I'm on board. If not, then why bother? I don't want to hear other people's music (Apple Music), I want to hear my own music that's why I pay for iTunes Match.

As a classical enthusiast Apple Music for classical is a complete joke. I understand there focus is on pop and rap, but the ratio of 1 billion rap artists to 3 good classical recordings is really lopsided. That's ok though, I buy my own classical music FROM iTunes music store which has a GREAT selection. Now if they offered everything in Apple music that the Apple iTunes store offered, signing up would be a no brainer, but selection on Apple music is limited and that's being very polite. <grin>

HomePop + iTunes Match? Sign me up. Otherwise, I guess it's my Tanoys going forward.

As far as I know Apple didn't officially says that it would only work if you have Apple Music subscription. All I know HomePod is designed to work with an Apple Music subscription.

I guess all we can do is just wait. Even if we try to contact Apple support regarding this matter and I don't think they have the definitive answer at this time since it's a new product and have not being sold yet.

Thanks for the reply. And you are right, of course.

I bought the Google Home Speaker when that was released under the impression that I would be able to play my personal music collection I uploaded to my Google Play Library just by asking for a song title. But I and countless others were in for shock when we found out the Google Home Speaker would not play specific song requests from our library. Google wants people to sign up for their subscription service.

I posted this question because I do not want to make the same mistake with the HomePod. I would hope Apple would allow the HomePod to play songs from iTunes Match since that is a $25-per-year paid Apple service. But Apple will make so much more money if HomePod buyers have to pay for a monthly Apple Music subscription.

We'll find out in 6 months, of course.

I like the Pod but as other people say I must be able to connect it to my vast music library on my local iTunes and if it only plays with an apple music subscription there will be plenty of people who will not buy it as i would not.

You must make it iTunes Lib compatible otherwise there will be loads of people being put off . You can play your local music on google version, Don't make this mistake Apple !!!!
