2008 iMac & macOS High Sierra

Hi,

I have a 20-inch, Early 2008, iMac. It seems to be not supported by the latest macOS High Sierra.

Does that mean I cannot use macOS High Sierra on my old iMac? Can I at least use the Disk Utility in the macOS High Sierra USB Drive to format my iMac so I can install other Operating Systems, such as Ubuntu(Linux), on it?

BTW, is my old iMac supported by macOS Sierra? Where can I find info about that?

No

you can not install Mac OS Sierra on any 2008 Mac.

MacOS Sierra - Technical Specifications

you can not use DU from High Sierra or Sierra if you are not running those OS's.

You can install a host of Unix variants on an Apple Computer on nearly all iterations of OS X that are compatible with Intel CPU's, it's not limited to the most recent or an upcoming OS.
