Damaged aluminium iphone SE

I have a rose gold iphone SE and I ALWAYS kept it in a sturdy plastic case, with a glass protector on the screen.

It fell a couple of times with the case on and I recently noticed the aluminium on the bottom edge looks damaged, as if it fell without anything on.

I was wondering if the aluminium can get damaged despite the case ?
