Using a 2010 MacBook as a network with a 2014 imac

I bought a 2010 macbook as a companion to my 2014 iMac. It has 250 mb and 4G memory, 10.12 installed. Can I transfer all of my apps etc to the MacBook so that I can use it when not at home? The whole purpose is to be able to work for my non profit on my paying jobs lunch and such.

MacBook, system 10.12

Hi there, Sue!

Thanks for reaching out via the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I am understanding that you'd like to move content from your iMac to your MacBook. I'd be happy to help!

If your apps are from the Mac App Store, you can re download your apps following the steps here: Redownload music, movies, TV shows, apps, and books from the iTunes Store, iBooks Store, and App Store . If you have apps that were not obtained from the app store, or other content you'd also like to transfer to the MacBook, you can do so following the instructions here: Move your content to a new Mac .

If your MacBook is not running the same macOS version as your iMac, some apps may not be compatible. To help avoid incompatibility, I would recommend making sure both computers are running the latest available macOS they can support. To check for and install updates on your iMac and MacBook, you can use this article: Update the software on your Mac .

Have a lovely day!

I think you could use Applications -> Utilities -> Migration Assistant to move your 3rd party Apps and data over from your iMac to your Macbook.

After you get yourself initially setup, you might want to look at something like maybe Dropbox.com (or similar) to keep your documents in sync between the 2 systems.

Some things might sync via iCloud, such as your keychain, and some apps can use iCloud to sync documents.
