Connecting Macbook Pro 15-Inch, Mid 2012 (without retina) to TV?

How do I connect my MacBook Pro 15-inch, Mid 2012 (without retina) to my TV? What cables and adapters (preferably with audio) do I need? Will appreciate if someone could link the products off Amazon or ebay cuz I get confused when trying to search. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

From: MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012) - Technical Specifications

Thunderbolt digital video output

  • Native Mini DisplayPort output
  • DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter (sold separately)
  • VGA output using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter (sold separately)
  • Dual-link DVI output using Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter (sold separately)
  • HDMI audio and video output using third-party Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter (sold separately)

Determine your TV's inputs and select the best option, probably the last option in the list above.

You don't need a converter box. Your MacBook Pro can send audio and video to a TV via a simple Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter plugged into its Thunderbolt port.

Hi,

Assuming your TV has HDMI, and not a DVI input, you'll need a converter box something like this, which should sit by your computer and must be plugged in to an AC wall receptacle: https://www.monoprice.com/Product?p_id=8124&gclid=CLvzx4uvr9QCFQcOaQodRhIKDw

plus a male to male DVI cable like this (whatever length you choose; this one is 6'): 6ft 28AWG CL2 Dual Link DVI-D Cable - Black - Monoprice.com

plus the male to male HDMI cable to go from the converter box to the TV's HDMI port (depends on length needed; this one is 20'): Certified Premium High Speed HDMI Cable, HDR, 20ft Black - Monoprice.com

plus a 3.5mm plug to male RCA plugs to connect the headphone port on your MBP to the converter box: 6ft 3.5mm Stereo Plug/2 RCA Plug Cable, Black - Monoprice.com

I think the easiest route considering the 2012 MacBook has a Thunderbolt port, is to get a Mini Display Port to HDMI adapter and a standard HDMI cable, assuming of course your TV has HDMI inputs. No real need to mess around with DVI.
