If you need an optical drive, there many much better drives out there than the SuperDrive. Most will work directly with a Mac with minimal effort.

Only you can decide whether you need an optical drive or not however.

It's worth it if you need an optical drive. If you have issues with it, there is a warranty on it. I wouldn't buy it on eBay, as it could be a knock-off; if you really must, then make sure there is a return policy and the seller has lots of sales and a great reputation, like 99% or 100%.
