need to move clips around freely without magnetism

iMovie 10.1.6

I used two cameras for different POVs for an event. There was background music and a chorus sang at the event. To cut from one clip to another, I need to sync the music accurately, but iMovie seems to have this "magnetism" that jams all clips together, preventing free movement of clips and syncing. Can it be turned off?

Hi, Richard,

Unfortunately, the "magnetism" can't be turned off.

A workaround is initially to place a black background in the timeline and drag it to the duration length of your movie. Then place your video clips in the timeline above the main time line where your black background has been placed. You will be able to move them freely there. You can add the background audio in the audio well as usual, and move those clips without having them be attached to any video clips in the upper time line.

Also, there is a well below the two audio track wells where you can park your audio clips and move them freely without being attached to any video clips in the main time line.

Finally, you can always use background clips as spacers.
