you tube not working on Ipad

My son cannot get you tube application to play on his Ipad Air 2. He keeps getting an error message. He has tried deleting the application and then re-installing it but that hasn't worked. He had the exact same problem with his original Ipad Air 2 and since it was relatively new (only a few months old) they gave us a new one. It doesn't make any sense to me why the same application/website doesn't work on 2 different Ipad's. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Do you have any suggestions on how we can fix it?

Hi. Could you please give the error message; it might be a clue. Has he tried logging out, and back in, with his Google ID (email) in the app? You tap the letter (or photo) in the upper right to access it.

The error message is: "something went wrong, tap to retry". I tried to follow some instructions for another person that was having exact same problem but there didn't work, stated go onto you tube via safari and scroll down to the bottom and tap "desktop" but there is no desktop on my son's Ipad

You suggested that he log into you tube using his google id, he uses my google id and password but neither of us know what you mean. How do you do that?
