Correct RAM for new iMac 27"

Hi.

I've just ordered the new 27" iMac with 4.2GHz CPU. I've specifically requested the 8GB RAM option in order to replace the RAM and fully populate with cheaper third-party RAM (Crucial or OCW, for instance).

Whilst I can see the specifics of:

PC4-2400 Unbuffered Nonparity 260-pin 2400MHz DDR4 SDRAM (SO-DIMM)

I've noticed that some RAM meeting the same criteria as above is labelled as: 'Single Ranked' or 'Dual Ranked' RAM.

Since I intend to buy 16GB x 4 (64GB max total), does anyone know if I would be better with the single or dual ranked RAM given the amount of RAM I'll be using. The machine will be mainly used for Logic Pro X and lots of sample libraries. Please note the question does not refer to dual-channel, etc!

Hi Rudgar.

Thanks for the reply, but I've been periodically looking on their website and the newer 2017 model isn't currently listed! On top of that, when I physically choose the spec of the RAM, it shows both the single and dual ranked sticks!!

I'm currently non the wiser!

Just to add:

But it should say: 'PC4-19200 ...' It should also add '260-pin'. When Apple originally posted the specifications they mentioned 204-pin! I kid you not - I still have a screenshot on my phone!
