Running a virtual machine on windows

This question isn't exactly about bootcamp, but it's the closest category I could see.

I'm wanting to start developing ios apps as a bit of a hobby. I have a macbook pro, however it's ridiculously slow and almost not usable at all. I installed virtualbox yesterday, but read that there's no legitimate way to use mac os x on a virtual machine. I've downloaded a copy of yosemite on my macbook, and converted it to an iso file, and sent it to my pc, however this still doesn't work as apparently apple no longer supports this method. Is there anyway I can get around this? I don't want to run a pirated copy.

Also is there anyway to delete the apps that come with os x? I've emptied out my macbook as much as possible, have minimised certain application use, but it still runs really slow (the 4gb ram is completely used up by just having one browser tab open) (it is quite old however). Deleting these apps is the last thing I can think of that might help with the speed a bit.

Thanks

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10)

You have 4 problems with your system that I can see

1) Your disk is failing. Backup immediately. Do it twice to a 2nd backup device using a 2nd backup utility if your data is important to you.

Macintosh HD (disk0s2 - Journaled HFS+) / [Startup]: 420.25 GB (109.14 GB free) - 371 errors

Drive failure!

This is most likely the biggest reason your Mac is running slow. And because of the failing disk, you backups may take a long time.

You are going to have to replace your disk.

I would suggest you replace it with an SSD, and your system will scream like it never did before. Or replace the DVD with a SSD and replace the broken rotational disk with another rotating disk for bulk storage. I suggest you look at <http://MacSales.com> OWC. The DVD replacement would their DataDoubler kits. They have regular hard disk to SSD replacements as well.

But get your data backed up first, and I really suggest 2 backup. Time Machine is 1. SuperDuper (free for a full clone), or Carbon Copy Cloner (1 month fully enabled demo) can give you a bootable clone that you can again clone onto the replacement disk.

You might also consider upgrading your RAM at the same time, but if funds are limited, then just get the disk replaced. MacSales (OWC) can help there, or Crucial.com. Both well respected Mac RAM vendors.

2) You also may have adware on your system

Possible adware:

Adware: ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Extensions/Searchme-2.safariextension

One possible adware file found. [Remove/Report]

Click on the [Remove/Report] button to remove it.

You might also want to run the free

MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (formally AdwareMedic)

<https://www.malwarebytes.org/>

3) You have anti-virus installed, which is most likely slowing down your Mac _AND_ chances are you do not have any RAM left because you have given it all to the anti-virus

And Please read

<Effective defenses against malware and other threats>

4) You have a Mac cleaner on your system

[loaded] com.macpaw.CleanMyMac3.Agent.plist (MacPaw Inc. - installed 2016-09-28) [Lookup]

[loaded] com.macpaw.CleanMyMac3.Scheduler.plist (MacPaw Inc. - installed 2017-06-09) [Lookup]

The forum volunteers have found that anti-virus, Mac cleaners and memory cleaners cause far more problems with users coming to these forums than any other thing.

Once you have taken care of the disk drive (and removed the other 3rd party software stealing your RAM and CPU), you will find that you can run Xcode and develop iOS software on your Mac. And you will NOT need to run macOS illegally on non-Apple hardware.

Maybe if you post an EtreCheck report, we might offer an alternative.

I suggest you use the program created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. It will provide a snapshot of your system which we can analyze to possibly determine the cause of your problem. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. On the screen with Options, please open Options and check the bottom 2 boxes before running. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.
