iPad 2: Viewing photos on a flash drive
If I store all my iPad photos on a flash drive and delete them from the IPad can I still view them if I connect the flash drive or do they have to be stored internally?
iOS 9.3.5

THey have to be stored internally.
I have an iPad 2 and I had the USB camera connection kit. I have been able to use SOME flash drives, however I had 14 drives an only 7 of them worked, with no consistent brand or size.
You have to fool the iPad into thinking the USB drive is a camera by putting all your images into a folder named DCIM and all the photos must have an 8 character name, DSC_2345.jpg for example.
THat said....you cannot view them off the drive, you must import them into the iPad to view anything more than a thumbnail so...effectively that's why I say no.
A far more reliable way to import, if your camera uses SD cards is to use the SD card reader.
Other things to consider, iPads 'optimize' photos when they import them so unless you don't care that your original file is altered, the most I'd recommend the iPad for is viewing, not consistent storage, Or, if you are a professional or want your originals untouched, import them into the iPad but keep the copy on the SD card for later use or proper backing up with a computer.
There is also zero native support to send images off the ipad and back to the SD card or USB drive. (now there are some wireless drives you can use to send files to so you'd need to research wifi hard drives and see if that's anything you are interested in...in that case you use an app associated with the drive)
There are a few special storage devices for mobile devices. There are portable, bulit-in WiFi hotspot hard drives for mobile devices made by Western Digital and Seagate.
