Where can I download Configurator for Yosemite?

I need to create a user profile for my iPad Pro in order to equip it for use with encrypted mail. Apparently, that can be accomplished using Apple's Configurator.app.

Alas, Configurator must be obtained through the App Store, and the only version available in the App Store is Configurator 2, which requires macOS 10.12.2 or later.

I'm currently using Yosemite 10.10.5. I'm in the middle of a project...not a good time to disrupt my workflow with a new system install. So where can I download an earlier version of Configurator...one that supports Yosemite?

Thanks!

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), MacBook Pro 17, iPad Pro

I presume you mean, "all that is available from Mac App Store is the most recent version." Since I had already mentioned that fact in my original post, I assumed that it would be clear that I already understood that the App Store does not provide a solution. Apparently I needed to be more specific. My bad.

What I'm asking is, "Where else can I download Configurator (v1.x) for Yosemite." I accept that you don't know, but I'm still going to try to find a solution.

For the record, I talked to Apple Support about this issue today, and they escalated my case up to a manager who agreed that Apple should provide versions of any Apple software for any system that is currently supported, for as long as that system is supported.

The App Store, as currently configured, fails that test. Yosemite and El Capitan are still supported, yet Configurator 2 (the only version available in the App Store) will not run on either of those systems.

The failure is further compounded by the fact that I have a brand new iPad Pro that I cannot configure to work with secure (encrypted) mail (even though it has that capability, in principle) because the only way of creating that configuration profile is with an Apple utility whose current version will not run on my Mac.

If my system were unsupported, I wouldn't expect Apple to accommodate me. But making a necessary utility unavailable in a currently supported system is unconscionable. And yes...I have made certain that Apple has received that feedback.

My Apple support manager judged my request for access to a Yosemite-compatible version of Configurator to be entirely reasonable. He is going to talk to "someone in engineering" to find out how I can get a copy of version I need. In the meantime, he encouraged me to try to find a copy wherever possible.

So, my question still stands: "Where can I get Configurator for Yosemite?"

I'll try to step past the arrogance and privilege spilling all over the place.

Many apps that folks have previously downloaded through the Mac App Store (MAS) and which run on legacy operating systems, can often be download through the Purchased pane of the MAS. The user requests the app from the list, the MAS determines that the current version won't run on their legacy kit and offers the appropriate legacy version for download.

Apple doesn't have a location where one can download legacy versions of apps. However, it seems that Configurator is also available in the wild. I saw a number of legacy versions offered on software update sites with a quick search using Configurator for Mac.

It is not arrogance; it's exasperation. I'm sorry you took it that way, but I'm looking for a solution, and your reply only restated the very policy that has created the problem I'm trying to solve.

I appreciate your taking the time to provide a detailed explanation of how the App Store works, but I'm all too painfully aware of the limitations it imposes on users who simply want the flexibility to configure their systems in a way that works for them. I've been using Macs since 1986, and the inflexibility of the App Store flies in the face of every user-friendly configurability principle the Mac ecosystem used to represent.

For example, I know that the fact that I have never needed Configurator before now disqualifies me from having access to a Yosemite-compatible version of the app under current App Store policy. It's a brick wall; understanding how the policy works doesn't solve the problem it creates. Everyone who has the same problem should provide appropriate feedback to Apple, not just roll over and play dead.

Regarding "in the wild", I assure you that I checked several software update sites that claimed to provide access to legacy versions of Configurator before I posted here. So far, they've all been a bust. For example, Softpedia, Download.CNET, and Softonic all provide links that ultimately lead back to the App Store. So, no help there.

But if you have a link to one that actually has a legacy version, that would be most helpful. I'll gladly mark that reply "This solved my question" in a New York nanosecond, and post my gratitude into the bargain.

As far as "privilege" is concerned, I have none that any other user who has purchased Apple Care agreements wouldn't have under the same circumstances. Apple's support staff has always tried to be helpful, and they usually succeed; there's nothing special about that. I simply stated my case, and the support manager offered to help as I described. Evidently he thought my request was reasonable. But he doesn't know me from Adam; there's no privilege involved.
