Apple Watch update stuck on "verifying.."

I have the first Apple Watch and it was lost just after getting it.. now found. I am trying to pair it to my new phone. I had to do a complete reset as well because I forgot the pass code. I also have a new iphone 7 plus.

When I go to pair it, it says I must update the software. Then I do everything it tells me, and it starts the download/update. However, it then gets stuck on "verifying.." and never finishes.

Is this because the software is so outdated that it can not update from the first ever version to the new 3.3.2 (I think that is the latest) version? I need to know what to do and get my apple watch working!

Hi

If you experience issues at or before the "verifying" stage, then it may help to follow these steps, which have resolved the same issue for other users.

However: do not interrupt your iPhone or watch if the process has already reached "installing". Note that you may need to scroll up on your iPhone screen to see the current status.

On your iPhone, close the Watch app along with all other open apps (double-press on the Home button, swipe up on the previews).

If you have not yet done so, first update your iPhone to the latest software:

Restart both your iPhone and your watch, turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first:
