I am new to the apple watch and I am wondering if there is a way to export your runs from the workout app to a third party app? I would prefer to track my runs with the Workout app itself, but I would like to view/compare more data on a third party app such as Strava or Runkeeper.

Health data (including workout data) can be exported from the Health app on your iPhone in the form of XML files, which are perhaps most useful when importing and exporting data between apps (a health record received as an XML file can be imported into the Health app, for example).
You may otherwise find it convenient to use a third-party app to access, analyse and export Health data to a computer in a more user-friendly format.
