Windows Live Mail 2012 has quit accepting my username and password for p07-smtp.mail.me.com

My email on my pc worked fine until today and then the p07-smtp.mail.me.com keeps popping up and wanting my username and password and won't accept what I am giving it.

Apple has introduced new security measures as of 6/15/17, which require you to use Two-Factor Authentication and an App-specific password in order to continue to use 3rd party apps that access iCloud data:

Two-factor authentication for Apple ID - Apple Support

Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support

You will have to turn on Two-Factor Authentication, then generate an App-specific password to sign into your LiveMail account. You will type in or paste the App-specific password instead of your Apple ID password to sign in.

Hi,

Yes, if you do not have an eligible device to turn on Two-Factor Authentication with, you can turn on Two-Step Verification instead, which is set up via your Apple ID rather than via a device.

Use the link in this snippet from the Two-Factor Authentication Support article:

If your account isn't eligible for two-factor authentication, you can still use two-step verification to protect your information.

In the linked article, you will see a link to set up Two-Step Verification. Click on that to get it set up.

Best of luck,

I think I see the issue. I have two iCloud accounts. One for my main Apple ID (app store, etc.) which is a gmail email and is what I'm logged into from my Windows desktop. The second is my me.com email address (which is the address associated with my Facebook account and a second email account that I use). So, on my phone I do have 2 Factor Authentication activated, but that is associated with the gmail iCloud account.

Prior to the change, I could send/receive email from both of these accounts from my Windows Live Mail 2012 on my desktop. Now, the me.com one is not authenticating. I don't know how to activate 2 Factor Authentication on my me.com AppleID since it seems you have to do it from an iOS device and I don't have a Mac or iPad, just my iPhone.

Does that make sense?? Is there a way I can get my me.com working again from my Windows desktop without altering my existing gmail email? Of course both work from my phone.

Thanks in advance!
