Preview requests my keychain password when I try to close a window using keyboard shortcut Command W
If I use the menu "Close" or Close all, the window (s) just close
My login keyword and keychain passwords are not the same and when I log in I often have to type my keychain password for many services.

None of that addresses my question as to why Preview requests my password to close a window
To make matters worse it obly requests it if I use a keyboard shortcut to close the window, not if I use a menu.
My login password and key chain passwords have been different for as long as I can remember. Problems seem to have arisen when I upgraded to Sierra

I'm not a coder so am not exactly sure why the interfaces have different responses in macOS. My first thought is that it might be related to the idea that KBs are considered a greater security concern.

Thanks ishrugged. But why does Preview request a login password and then only if I use a keyboard shortcut, not if I use the menu?
Preview will not prompt to enter password , may be you have kept passwords different in the past , to avoid these pop ups you can follow the steps in the articles.
