Are AirPods matched to a charging case?

I have two sets of AirPods. This was a glitch when ordering them. It's a long story but not really relevant. What I do want to know is can the AirPods themselves be used interchangeably between the two cases? In other words, if I put the AirPods from the first case in the second case will they still work?

That is an interesting question, but I cannot seem to find an answer to that question. I would think it could be somewhat possible, since they are a Bluetooth device. I've searched here, AirPods Support - Official Apple Support but haven't found an answer. I would also be thinking that since you have the option to replace a lost AirPod, there has to be something that is done once you place them into the charging base.

I agree with Chris, they should still work perfectly fine.

I would think this because according to AirPods Service Answer Center - Apple Support, you can purchase a new case or single AirPod. I would assume that it uses the case to pair and when you put the AirPods in a different case they should be able to sync with that case and pair with a different phone.

I'm not 100% certain about this, but it also looks this way according to a teardown done by iFixit, which if you are interested in, you can look it up on their website.

Hopefully this helps!
