Can I connect my Apple TV (4th generation) to my home theatre system?

I just got an Apple TV (4th generation.) I was hoping to hook it up to my blue-ray player (Sony BDVE3100 5.1 Channel Home Theatre System) so I can get better sound than just from my TV speakers. But I cannot find a way to do so. Is there any way to make this work? Thanks.

Also check on your TV. It may have an audio monitor output, from which you can send audio to one of the inputs on your home theater system.

If your TV has this, then it avoids the need for an HDMI audio extractor. You just connect HDMI cable from AppleTV to one of the HDMI inputs on your TV; and then connect TV audio monitor output (usually standard RCA pin plugs) to your home theater system.
