Apple Script error -5000

Why when I try to save my apple script does it keep on telling me

The document “Untitled” could not be saved as “setup.scpt”. (Error -5,000)

I have tried giving it all types of names but still the same answer?

Yesterday I went into the HD and checked my access and ended up having to reinstall the Sierra system

because the screen locked up and would not allow me to do anything else?
