Automatically adding files to Photos app
Can I set up Photos to automatically add any files I put in a specific folder?

It is working for me.
Have you tried it this way? Set the workflow up like this:
Then save the workflow with File > Save.
Run it once to add the folder action by clicking the Run button. This will produce an error message about running inside Automator. Ignore it. Quit Automator.
Now drag an image file into your folder. It should appear in Photos, if the image format is compatible with Photos.
What do you intend to do with the image files after they have been imported into the Photos library?
If you plan on deleting them shortly thereafter then try this Automator folder acton:
That will do this:
Import the file to Photos and move it to a folder called Pre-Trash. Then you can delete from that folder when you're ready and have confirmed that the import into Photos was successful.
yes, but it is not done in Photos. You have to add a folder action to the folder where you are dropping the new photos. In the user tip section of the Photos forum is a user tip explaining how to write the Automator workflow to set up the folder. Right now I cannot access the URL, because I'm not on my Mac, but I'll post the link when I get home.
Thanks, Larry, that is the link I meant!
Ah - brilliant - thanks both!
You're welcome Rosemarie!
I'm at my computer so it was easy - no problem

Aha - yes it does work - it produces the error in automator (as in my screen shot) but when I actually drag a photo into that folder it does load it to the Photos app. Great! 😁 Many thanks Leonie.
🙂
Hmm think I might be spending a bit of time playing with Automator! Many thanks 🙂
