Can't find an answer on any forum on the internet : is the newest iTunes 12.6.1 able to sync with iOS 9.3.5 (my old iPad 2)?
Before downloading iTunes 12.6.1 on my Mac I want to be sure, as I dont want to replace my iPad 2 that still works fine.

Yes. iTunes is backwards compatible with all older versions of iOS and iPod firmware. Problems may arise when you can no longer update iTunes and you allow iOS to be updated to a version that your older copy of iTunes cannot talk to. E.g. iOS 10.2 needs iTunes 12.5 or better, which in turn requires OS X 10.9 Mavericks or better.
