Overlay insert jumps to the start of the line?!

Hey folks.

I recently updated to 10.3.4, but now I am not able to insert an overlay clip on top of my original clip - it just jumps to the end of the line I insert it onto (see screenshot below).

I want it to stay at the blue circle, but it jumps to the red circle when I let it go... Am I missing something?!

Best regards,

Jesper

The primary storyline is darker. Your red oval marks an area in the primary. The blue clip at the left is also in the primary.

Your clips above it are grouped into a secondary storyline as indicated by the "shelf" around them.

In FCP X *everything* in your timeline is either in the primary storyline or connected to something in the primary. Your secondary storyline is connected to the primary too.

What do you mean by overlay insert? Do you mean a connected clip? What are you doing to execute the edit? Drag and drop? Button? Keyboard shortcut? Where is the skimmer when you do this?

Your original clip is not in the primary storyline. At the point of the of the blue circle there is nothing on the primary storyline to connect to. It still should work, but it depends on exactly what you're doing.

If you really want to connect at that position, you can add a long gap clip at the primary storyline.

I don't know the nature of your project, but it looks like the contents of what is now a secondary storyline might belong in the primary, and that audio clip at the beginning could become a connected clip.

Then you'd have no problem connecting the clip in yellow in your screenshot.
