I have a series of audio files (m4a) that I find myself unable to add to my iTunes library. They play just fine in the Finder, but when I drag them into iTunes, either one at a time or in a group, nothing happens. The library window highlights, but dropping the files into it doesn't import them. No error message, not a word of complaint, but no results.
Do I need to write off the files, or is there something else I should be trying here?
iTunes will ignore anything marked as hidden even if you can see it. You can try dropping a copy of one of the files into <Media Folder>/Automatically Add to iTunes. It will either be absorbed into the library or moved into a Not Added subfolder. If it goes to Not Added you won't know why, but at least you'll know for certain that iTunes doesn't like it.

Did you check under Music? Recently Added? ...?
Did you tried using iTunes menu > File > Add to Library ?
The files don't show up in Recently Added. File > Add to Library doesn't work any better than drag-and-drop. (Thank you — I knew I'd left something out of the OP.)
