how do I deregister a phone number from iMessage and Facetime if I do not have either the iPhone or the SIM?

I've changed employer and handed back the iPhone and SIM to my previous one but received a new iPhone and SIM from the new employer.

Under iCloud it appears that my old phone number is set as the iMessage and Facetime number and to remove it I have to "deregister" the number. To do this I either need to a) put the SIM back in the iPhone and change the settings, or send a code to the old SIM to deregister. My problem is that I have neither the phone nor the SIM to get the afore mentioned code. What is option 3?? Surely there are others in a similar boat when using the iPhone for business.

Yes I too have an old phone number from a different iPhone in settings top under Apple ID and spent many phone calls with customer service to no avail in fact they just don’t care, don’t know how to remove it except by the standard means which doesn’t work. There is no way to remove it. I hate it. That number brings back bad memories and clearly Apple has a problem but show no willingness to fix.

Did you ever get a real answer besides people linking the EXACT same page which is completely pointless because it sends a text to a phone you no longer have.

For the identical reasons I no longer have my old iPhone (work). Had I known what a nightmare this whole thing would turn into, I would have made sure I logged out. What the **** happens to people who have their phones stolen? Surely this has been an issue before now.

Thanks Brian,

Everything on my new phone indicates that things are set up correctly. Settings shows my new phone number under "Phone" and it looks like iMessage settings are my new phone number and Apple ID.

Where my old phone number shows up is in Settings >> Apple ID profile (at the top of list) >> Name, Phone Numbers, Email >> Contactable At

this has my Apple ID, old phone number and new phone number. If I select "Edit" I can delete my Apple ID and my new phone number but the old number says:

Deregister Number to Remove

This phone number is being used for iMessage & Facetime. If you still hav ethe iPhone that uses this number, turn off iMessag & Facetime on it and try again.

At the moment I havent noticed any functional issues however I want to make sure that people trying to contact me dont go through to my former employer.

Cheers,

Shane
