Excessive Cellular Data Usage on Chrome

Hi, I'm experiencing an issue with the Chrome mobile app using a seemingly ridiculous amount of cellular data in a short period of time, and I'm not sure why it's eating up so much data.

It has used 500mb in just 3 days just from a simple web browsing, and to provide better info on the situations:

• had 7 tabs open, all of them are text heavy websites and some ads & images (news, forum)
• no videos watched at all
• Background activity was turned off
• Roaming turned off
• Preloading pages was set to Wifi only
• only used off wifi around 1hr each day during commutes

Does anyone have ideas or suggestions?
