Hi, I am having an issue where the cursor often gets stuck as the wrong icon until I click on something. The attached photo is of the resizing icon in the the launcher, but it happens in other apps too. I was wondering if this is a known bug, or if its unique to my system. I would like to solve this issue. I have a mid 2015 MacBook Pro running Sierra. (10.12.5).

Thanks for the reply. Here is the report from Etrecheck. I have a feeling it not anything I installed though, because It was happening on a fresh install, too, which is why I thought it could be a macOS bug.

This sort of behavior is usually a sign that you've installed some sort of third-party mouse-driver or similar system extension and it is not compatible with SIerra.
Run Etrecheck:
and post the report if you can't identifiy it yourself.

Okay, the behavior continued both in safe mode, and after rebooting normally. It also persisted on a fresh reinstall I did earlier. Does anyone else have this problem of the cursor getting "stuck on wrong thing"?
Boot into Safe Mode, Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode, and see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and check again.
My guess is that it's this kernel extension:
jp.co.roland.RDUSB0120Dev (1.5.3 - SDK 10.9)
with Spotify as another, much less likely, possibility.
I would tend to agree, but I only just installed that Roland driver and Spotify. This problem was occurring with the computer with a fresh install of Sierra before I put those things on.

I would also like to mention its not consistent, sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. And when it does, clicking on something normally fixes it. It's just rather annoying.
It returns to normal if you click on the Desktop or something else, right? I get that frequently and just click on something else and continue with my work.
yes. It's not like it makes the computer unusable or anything, it just doesn't seem like it should happen.
It shouldn't happen and it doesn't happen on most installations of Sierra.
Try an external mouse. Perhaps it's your track pad. If it's the track pad, try resetting your NVRAM and/or the SMC.

It does the same thing with usb mouse, and I already tried the smc reset. Come to think of it, I remember this happening on a friends Mac too. Maybe its a bug with Sierra?
