External drives are neither Mac nor non-Mac. They are just external drives.


You can use any external drive on a Mac. External drives formatted for Windows as NTFS can be read by a Mac but not written to natively. You can download special drivers like Tuxera or Paragon to enable the Mac to write onto Windows formatted NTFS drives.


Beyond that pretty much any external drive can be formatted to HSF+ for use with a Mac through Disc Utility assuming you don't need to continue using it with Windows.

Note that formatting erases all content on the drive.
