Can I connect my AppleTV via Ethernet and control my AppleTV with my iPhone?

My AppleTV is connected to the internet by Ethernet. I want to use the remote app on my iPhone. Is that possible? I can't figure out how to connect the iPhone as a remote while my AppleTV is connected to the internet by Ethernet. Thanks.

Yes. The connection method is not really important as long as they are connected to the same network.

My Apple Tv is connected via ethernet to my router while my iPhone is connected via Wifi to the same router and I can control my Apple Tv just fine.

Make sure that the wifi portion is not a separate network to the wired portion. This would be a setting in your router.

Beyond that, you can follow the steps here to setup the Apple Tv Remote App:

How can I tell if the wifi portion is a separate network to the wired portion? I have new Internet service with AT&T, so don't know how to determine that (I used to have an Airport Extreme). When I try to connect my remote I can see the Apple TV, but it says it can't connect - says to make sure it is connected to the same network. I'd much rather stay connected via Ethernet to Apple TV if this can be resolved. Thanks.
