So NOW the big thing is to make a video window/player slide to the right (or somewhere) as you scroll through a webpage. I finally figured out how to stop autoplay in Safari. Is there some way to prevent this slide? The video keeps covering up content I am trying to read. Yahoo Finance is the worst offender, but CNN and BBC are almost as bad.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.
Safari will automatically block those videos in the next release of macOS coming this fall.
Oh, great. I guess it is Firefox until then. At least Firefox let's me close the window.

What's stupid is even though I have blocked the autoplay, this silly non-playing box still floats around.

Also try using an ad blocker, there are a few you can choose from the Safari extension gallery: https://safari-extensions.apple.com/
I have sent feedback and I do use an ad blocker. I did stop using AB+ because I find the double dipping to be rather unethical. I use uBlock these days.

If you are concerned about page load time, you can try content-blocking ad blockers, ones that are compatible with blocking content before it downloads, saves you data 🙂
