Very Frequent "Not Responding"

Help! I've an iMac 27, late 2012 model with MacOS Sierra, Version 10.12.5, 8 GB memory with 1TB drive.

I'm plagued with system halts, apps that freeze (Safari, Outlook, Firefox, Adobe Acrobat, Excel, etc). The problem is so bad, I took this unit to Apple Reston, who kept it for two days (6/15 & 6/16), couldn't find anything wrong and even re-installed the OS. Total waste of time and I'm not too pleased with those so-called "experts".

I've tried that program Onyx to no avail.

My productivity has ground to a halt because of this problem.

It's so bad, that I can't even gracefully shut down. I actually have to pull the power plug to get my system to shut off, at times. I reboot, the apps may work for a few mins and the problem starts all over again.

I need an MVP to weigh in and get me back on my feet.

Please Help!

Unfortunately you or someone that has access to the computer has made it a mess. First is you have some orphan files, re-open the report and click the link to remove these.

However I see multiple Antivirus apps are installed. Mac OS was designed to be extremely secure and only requires it to be kept up-to-date. Adding antivirus apps is 100% worthless and in many cases (such as yours) tend to create more problems than they solve. Locate the developers instructions for uninstalling the AV apps installed and get rid of the AV apps. Then restart the computer in Safe Mode to clear some caches and then restart normally.

Next you have a large number of Internet Plugins installed. Inventory that list and get rid of the ones you determine are unnecessary. Use Safari 8 (Yosemite): If you need to remove a plug-in to learn how to do this.

Good luck.

Thanks for the quick turn around! I'll take a close look at your recommendations, find those orphan and plugins as you suggest.

RE AV, I'm very concerned about getting hit with Malware and ransomware and you state Mac OS updates prevent and defend against those threats? If so, then I'll remove the AV software as you suggest.

You said restart in Safe Mode? How do you do that?

Thanks! Vince.
