unknown software update popup keeps appearing on my MacBook Pro and I cannot close it. Is it legit?

Hello,

Can someone please tell me what this strange update popup is on my MacBook Pro running Sierra 10.12.5, Processor: 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7, Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB? I have run Webroot security scans and report is clean; however this looks very suspicious. It pops up shortly after I log in and there is no way to close it. Please help! Thanks!!

Okay, I sent this back privately, but thought those here might want to know.

It looks like this is associated with some Logitech presentation software (LogiPresentation). That was installed, and the colors in that window match the color scheme of the installer:

...as well as the color scheme of the page for the Logitech Spotlight pointer:

I recommend checking with Logitech just to make absolutely sure, but I didn't see anything malicious on the Mac in question.

If anyone from Logitech should ever chance across this, you should be ashamed at creating such a generic, unattributable software update window! In this day and age of malware, adware and other security concerns, such a window is extremely shady, and I'd never recommend that anyone click on a window like that. Suspicion in this case may not have been necessary, but was 100% appropriate!

That does look highly suspicious, but it's not something I've ever seen before.

If you download Malwarebytes, as Fin N suggests, and it doesn't detect anything, choose Contact Support from the Help menu within Malwarebytes, and include that screenshot and a reference to this discussion in your e-mail. I'll take a look at the information included and let you know what I find.

Hey Thomas,

I cross referenced the pointer's app interface with the pop up and it's a match. Color scheme, font, etc. Logitech streamlined the graphics and clearly took it a bit too far. Many thanks for stepping forward to deliver us some needed peace of mind. To all of you out there helping others on these forum platforms, keep up the great work!! Take care. - John Michael
